HISTORY
Centlivre Family
The brewery opened on Spy Run Avenue in Fort Wayne after the Centlivre family emigrated from France. They built a large facility along the St. Marys River to produce their high-quality beer, establishing a lasting presence in what is now the Spy Run Avenue corridor of downtown Fort Wayne.

BREWERY OPENS
A devastating fire destroyed much of the facility, but the resilience and creativity of the Centlivre family allowed them to rebuild quickly. They went on to endure both World Wars and the Great Depression, carrying the business forward through some of the most challenging times in history.

By 1954, Old Crown beer was growing in popularity, leading to the construction of garages behind the property to accommodate an expanding fleet of delivery trucks. These buildings still stand today, and the owners of The Barrel House & Event Center plan to preserve their historic charm.

OLD CROWN BEER IS GROWING IN POPULARITY
After nearly 100 years in business, the brewery was forced to close shortly after becoming employee-owned. Increasing pressure from larger national brewers ultimately proved too much. While the brewery doors have closed, the Old Crown Coffee Roasters café remains a beloved Fort Wayne staple, known for its high-quality coffee and community atmosphere. Today, Brewerks continues the legacy by brewing the original Old Crown beer recipe.
